16-Bit Platformer Super Catboy Launches In Fall 2021 For PC With A Pre-Alpha Demo Available Now

Publisher Assemble Entertainment and the two-person development team Pixelpogo have announced their next project. Together, companies launch the action-platform game Super Catboy for PC and Mac next year.

Super Catboy features a cat who is accompanied by a “deranged but cute sidekick companion.” Catboy seeks to dismantle his creator’s plans so he can start doing what he loves most: nothing. But that requires eliminating the threat of sinister anthropomorphic dogs.

A short trailer lasting around a minute shows some of the artwork and its gameplay. The game has premium pixel art that replicates the style of the 90s but with a modern twist.

The game will allow players to run around and collect coins, jump over crates and shoot barrels to make them explode. Catboy also has other useful felines at his disposal, such as using his claws to grab onto trees to avoid traps and more.

Super Catboy was inspired by the heyday of 16-bit platforms in the 1990s, cat videos and intense action shooter games. At the same time, the game includes graphics and game mechanics that players of the modern era are used to.

Arthur Eckmann, co-founder of Pixelpogo, commented Super Catboy, indicating:

Super Catboy combines elements of various platform, run’n’gun and beat’em up games, but offers unique variety with the inclusion of bonus levels that feature an alternate playstyle. We were inspired by iconic games like Mega Man X, Metal Slug, Donkey Kong Country and more, which shaped the game designers that we are today.

Those who want to try out the game can check out the pre-alpha demo on the game’s official website. The demo requires download but does not require Steam. The content of the demo may differ significantly from the final version of the game, but will give players an introduction to the title.

Currently, the title will support nine languages. They understand English, French, Italian, German, Japanese, etc. Many people around the world will have the opportunity to play the game when it launches next year.

Super Catboy still has several months of development. Those who want to keep up with the latest news can now make a wishlist on Steam or follow the developer on social media. The publisher also has an official Discord server where the community can discuss the game or any of its other titles.
