Accident on the descent of Betânia closes lanes on the Ring Road

Another accident was recorded in the late afternoon of this Tuesday (21) on the Celso Mello Azevedo Rodoviário Ring, at the height of the Betânia neighborhood, in the western region of Belo Horizonte. This time, fortunately, only one person would have been slightly injured.

The crash happened in the Vitória direction of the highway and involved a truck and a minibus, with the second vehicle ending up in the opposite lane. As a result, both directions are partially banned. Check out a video that shows the situation at the scene:

According to Via 040, the concessionaire that manages the stretch, around 7:50 pm, drivers were still facing 9 km of congestion towards Vitória and 5 km towards Rio de Janeiro.

Until 20:00, traffic was still blocked in the place and congestion was already reaching the BH Shopping interchange, in Belvedere. Check out aerial footage of the situation:

The driver of the minibus, who was alone in the vehicle, was the only one injured and was rescued by the concessionaire to a health unit. Military personnel from the Military Highway Police (PMRv) are already at the scene, directing traffic.

Average of two accidents per day

The Belo Horizonte Ring Road registered, until June 8, 2022 more than 270 accidents – an average of almost two each day. The collisions resulted in nine lives lost, according to PMRv data.

Last June 10th, this sad statistic grew a little more, with the registration of a pile-up involving eight vehicles that killed two people. Six days later, three accidents happened again on the road, including another pile-up. with five cars and two trailers that, miraculously, left only one minor injury.

After the tragedy that left two dead, the City of Belo Horizonte (PBH) informed that the escape area that is being built on the Betânia stretch should be ready. at the end of the first semester. However, drainage interventions will be pending due to the lack of interested parties in the bidding that took place in May.
