Bethesda completely lifted the veil of its next expansion to The Elder Scrolls Online today via a live stream that featured a combination of game trailers and developer feedback. The Gates of Oblivion will send players to familiar places and explore others for the first time in modern memory. Or memory of the past, I guess. This expansion is a kind of prequel to The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion after all, as you will discover through the new main quest line. Bethesda also revealed that the Gates of Oblivion will open to the world of Elder Scrolls Online players on the June 1 PC release date.

As with all major MMO expansions, there are countless details on upcoming changes and new content. The main conclusions are that Blackwood and the Dead Lands (Oblivion) will become explorable zones in the game. Players should recognize the above location as part of the native region of the Argonians, but Blackwood is actually more of a melting pot between the Imperials, the Argonians, and the Khajiites. The area will reflect this, particularly in the city of Gideon. As for Deadlands, players can look forward to the uneven brimstone and fiery atmosphere that they defined. I forget long time ago. However, there will also be some new sights to enjoy, like the Mehrunes Dagon himself. The Daedric Prince of Destruction towers over the landscape and actually moves through his kingdom as you explore. We’re still not sure how it will react to intruders, but it adds some impressive dynamics to the Oblivion blueprint.

Bethesda also spent a lot of time talking about the culture and history of the expansion. It seems that Mehrunes Dagon will once again meddle in the affairs of mortals. This time around, the Daedric prince has created weapons of mass destruction for some particularly powerful individuals. It is up to you to save the world, naturally. You can also look forward to the return of some of the fan favorite characters.

Time to talk about your Septim bag

Bethesda didn’t hesitate to mention that some pre-purchase bonuses include instant access to the Nagahide Welwa Ravager mount and the Nightmare Bear Cub pet. These are only available from now until March 17, so you have time to decide if you want to commit to another MMO expansion. Advance purchases of Gates of Oblivion will also award the Dremora Kynreeve outfit plus the Deadlands Wamasu mascot and more at the expansion release date.

Purchase options vary, but new players can get the base game with all previous expansions plus Blackwood for $ 59.99 or just the Blackwood upgrade for $ 39.99. There are also additional collector’s editions.
