Facebook will Launch Twitch Competitor Gaming Application

Facebook seems to realize that at this time many users spend time at home playing games or watching live stream games. Now they are launching a special application for gaming as a competitor to Twitch and YouTube.

The Verge reported on Monday that Facebook gaming application will focus on creating and watch the live stream content. But this application will also include casual games like Words with Friends and access to the gaming community.

Facebook actually plans to launch this application in June. But its launch was accelerated to capitalize on surging demand because many people had to stay at home because of the Corona virus pandemic.

‘Investing in gaming in general has become a priority for us because we see gaming as a form of entertainment that can connect people,’ Head of the Facebook App, Fidji Simo, told the New York Times.

‘This is entertainment that is not only in the form of passive consumption but interactive entertainment and connecting people,’ he continued.

Although Facebook has the largest user base in the world (2.5 billion users), their actions in the gaming world are still far behind when compared to Twitch and YouTube. Even the content offered by Facebook Gaming is less than 5% of the 121.4 million hours of content that Twitch broadcasts this year.

With this application, Facebook will make it easier for users to start streaming with the ‘Go Live’ feature. This feature allows users to upload live streams from other mobile games on the same device by only pressing a few buttons.
