Due to the current Covid-19 crisis, there have been relatively few X-Wing in 2020. The development team has spoken to Organized Play to see if there should be a July 2020 points update and hyperspace rotation. Both teams agreed that an update was worth implementing, but with the following guidelines in place:
- Nothing will be removed from Hyperspace in July. We want to give players a chance to use Hyperspace Lists they may have built but haven’t had a chance to play yet.
- However, new elements will be added to Hyperspace in July to keep the game mode fresh. Players should note that this is an exception to our usual process. Normally we wouldn’t add content during the biannual updates without rotating other content, but since many players haven’t had a chance to use the rosters they built in the first one yet. semester of the year, we don’t want to narrow people’s options at this point. Some content will rotate out of hyperspace again in the next update.
- The point changes will be gradual and focused on the conclusions we can draw from existing data, especially from the second half of 2019.
With those general principles established for this update, let’s move on to some details.
The aces of great initiative and great mobility, especially in the Imperial and Republican factions, have been consistent performers in the second edition. Pilots like Obi-Wan Kenobi, “Whisper” and Soontir Fel have performed well in the competitive scene, and this update brings modest increases to these pilots and their favorite improvements, often in the range of 1 to 3 points. With lots of new content on the horizon and fewer recent tournaments to draw data from, these changes are generally conservative. This set of changes is not meant to push these ships out of viability, but simply to have their points better reflect their value as it has occurred so far.
