Frogger Is Becoming A Live-Action Competition Where Players Become The Frog

Since video games became successful, film and television adaptations have continued. Whether you are talking about Super Mario Bros. Super Show in 1989, the long Pokemon anime, or the next one Mortal combat film, the results were as varied as the games they attempted to adapt. While Sonic the hedgehog 2 and The witcher Season 2 is currently in the works, now we know the last game to enter the live-action adaptation fray, and it’s probably not what you expected. As some fans yearn for BioShock on the big screen or episodic new adventures in the Mass Effect universe, NBCUniversal has ordered a new competitive live-action series based on the classic video game Frogger.

The report comes from The Hollywood Reporter, which says Peacock’s portrayal of Frogger will be an unscripted competition, with an initial order of 13 episodes. The description sounds a lot like a branded video game show that draws inspiration from popular competitive entertainment like ninja warrior, Annihilate, and The floor is lava. In Frogger, the contestants assume the role of the titular frog as they attempt to overcome a series of obstacles. Obstacles that competitors must avoid on their way to the goal include traffic, alligators, and hippos. We’re guessing they won’t actually be hit by a car or attacked by a deadly predator, but who’s to say, really? In all cases, the winners take home cash prizes.

According to THR, Frogger marks the first original contest series to Peacock, who has so far maintained his unscripted series focused on documentaries and reality shows as an imminent rebirth of Miami’s real housewives. While the very notion of Frogger as a competitive TV show looks weird at first, it will be interesting to see how that goes with the support of a big network like NBC.
