In Valheim, a good foundation is essential, but it can be difficult to know how to build a perfect home and understand the housing support system.

A flat terrain

The first thing you need is flat ground. It is easier to build a solid house if the area is as flat as possible. You may also want to build it by the water, so try to find a nice beach.

As long as you have a hammer and workbench, you can start your construction. However, if you have a hoe, you can use it to flatten the dirt. Flatland is a good base and this is of the utmost importance.

How to work with the support system

Building in Valheim means understanding the support system. But sometimes it can be difficult to understand. However, when you get it, you understand why a good foundation is the most important step in building your home.

When you first create a piece and put it on the ground, it will glow blue when you place your hammer on it. Blue indicates that the piece is touching the ground and therefore has a solid base. Each blue piece is your main support for the rest of your build.

The more you build with the same support, the more the colors will change. The first piece you build on top of the blue one will turn green. And, from there, the colors change to yellow, orange, and red.

Red is hardly a good color in any game. Red means that the part has terrible structural integrity. If you build more, the next piece will break.

To fix it, posts and walls can help you improve the quality of your structure.

Building decay

Your buildings are not immortal. Heavy rain, haters, and poor structural integrity can cause the health of your building parts to deteriorate. A rotten piece has a grayish color.

For that reason, use the hammer to repair the parts at no cost, otherwise they may break.

How to build a fireplace

You need the fire to feel warm, sleep, and cook, but keeping it inside creates a smoke problem. This is why a good chimney system is very important.

Since fires can only be built on natural soil, you must remove a tile from your home. And, to prevent smoke from entering your home, protect the path from smoke with walls.

Rains can put out a fire, so you need to protect it so that the smoke still has a place to go, such as a very high ceiling with ventilation areas. It depends on your creativity.

And remember, your bed should be within reach of the fireplace.
