In the US, Guedes talks about approving reforms this year and urges foreigners to invest in the country

Guedes, who is in the United States for the meetings of the finance ministers of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the G20, participated in a video conference of the North American entity Atlantic Council.

“My word is: believe in Brazil. Especially at this moment of decision, post-pandemic, when many companies are changing their location, are leaving China to go to South America. Think of Brazil, we are reducing corporate taxes, trade barriers, opening up the economy, simplifying the process of starting a business in Brazil, ”he said.

The tax reform cited by Guedes proposes to reduce corporate taxation and, at the same time, to resume taxation of profits and dividends distributed to individuals.

In addition to tax reform, the Minister of Economy said he believed administrative reform and the privatization of Correios and Eletrobras would also be approved by December.

Paulo Guedes also urged businessmen to trust Brazilian institutions.

“Sometimes one here, the other there, it can be the president, it can be a member of Congress, it can be a minister of the Supreme Court. At one point, someone is making a lot of noise. But the important thing is the institutions. the institutions are functioning. Brazil is a dynamic democracy, we vote every two years, we have been in hyperinflation twice. Our institutions are functioning, elections will take place, ”he said.

The Minister of Economy also said that Brazil will see growth of 5.3% in 2021 and above 2% in 2022, despite projections from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) indicating an expansion of 1.5%. next year. He recalled that the institution was wrong last year, predicting a drop of more than 9% for the Brazilian economy, while the GDP fell by 4.1%.
