The next event in Apex Legends is called Chaos Theory and it will launch on Tuesday, March 9 – next week. In a first surprise, fans got their hands on the patch notes today, and there are plenty of changes to discuss.

Significant changes have been made to several Legends, which might be enough to change a meta that has already started to feel a little stale in the first few weeks of Season 8.

While this was a special Caustic event – with his takeover of the city replacing the water treatment on King’s Canyon – he actually received a nerf. For anyone who plays Apex a lot, this sounds great.

He received an additional one minute cooldown on his Ultimate Nox grenade and damage taken inside his gas cloud has been reduced to a fixed rate of 5hp, rather than stacking from 6hp to 12hp . That means he should feel a little less oppressive to play against.

Fans of Pathfinder, you can finally rejoice. Everyone’s favorite robot finally received a buff after being treated badly by the Reappear devs. Low Profile – that annoying trait that means Legend takes extra damage – has now been removed.

Wattson, oh, well, a Wattson buff. She will now regenerate the shield just like the health regeneration of Octane. That is true. You don’t need to be next to his Ultimate, if you are playing Wattson you just got infinite shields. Very interesting.

Horizon and Gibraltar were also nerfed. Horizon Ultimate now has an additional 1 minute cooldown, and the Dome of Gibraltar no longer grants everyone inside an additional healing speed. These are positive changes.

But that’s not all that happens with the chaos theory event. There is a brand new inventory slot called “Survival Slot” which will contain items like Respawn Beacons and the new item, the Heat Shield.

Originally introduced for the new limited-time mode arriving with the event, heat shields can be deployed inside the ring to protect a squad from damage. Regeneration and healing is increased in the ring, but the ring takes damage over time.

This opens the doors to some pretty cool games with the ring and it will be really interesting to see how this fits into ranked and competitive play in the future as the item sticks around even after the end of the game. ‘event.
