RLCSX NA Winter Major Day 1 Results: Envy remains strong, G2 falls flat

The first day of Season X of the Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS) North American Winter Major Season X has come and gone. Now we know who is heading into day two and guaranteed in the top six or better, and who came up short.

With the Winter Major as the final event of the winter split, the teams are looking to secure the bulk of the $ 100,000 and a slew of points that determine who will go to the world championships later this year. There weren’t many surprises, but we did see some minor surprises on the first day.

Envy continues its strong streak, while G2 falls short

Team Envy have been the strongest team in North America this season, and in this major they continued to show dominance. Four-time RLCS World Champion Pierre “Turbopolsa” Silfver and his team have won the previous major and now secured at least the top three by making quick work of The Peeps (4-0) in the top semi-final , even though the individual games are close.

NRG also clinched in the top three and awaits Team Envy in the top final on day two. The team of three former world champions had no problems with SpaceStation Gaming, which ranks third in the standings, making the quick 4-1 win even more impressive.

Therefore, the top three of the season’s leaderboard (Team Envy, NRG and SpaceStation Gaming) and the latest regional winner, Rogue, are still in the running to claim first place in this winter tournament. G2 Esports, however, fell short and flopped in the tournament with two losses in a row; first against Ghost Gaming, then against Rogue on the bottom bracket. They are currently in fourth place in the standings but can still be beaten by various teams. Despite still being in the top six (for now) going to the world championship, G2 hasn’t seemed like a strong contender for the crown this season. But at least a better result than last place was expected.

What’s happening on the second day of the RLCSX NA Winter Major?

Several more great matches await us on the second day of this RLCSX NA Winter Major. With NRG versus Team Envy and SpaceStation Gaming versus Rogue, we are likely looking at the future top four in the region, all pitted against each other in their opening rounds of the day. But the showdown of The Peeps versus Version 1 (formerly Cloud9) cannot be forgotten either. Rocket League is volatile and anyone can pull a win out of the hat.

But there is more. In addition to the battle for the championship of this major, another tournament will conclude on the same day, on the same broadcast. The Ford + Rocket League Freestyle Invitational will see its own conclusion before the Major’s grand finale. Two so-called freestylers will perform their creative mechanical skills in front of a jury to fight for the grand prize of a real-life Ford F-150. The first rounds took place earlier in the week and if they’re anything to go through, the grand finale should be a sight to behold.

Day 2 of the RLCSX NA Winter Major continues Sunday, February 28 at 1 p.m. ET on Twitch and YouTube.
