Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Pyra and Mythra join the fight later today

During “Mr. Sakurai Presents”, Masahiro Sakurai revealed that Pyra and Mythra will be available in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate later today.

As always, the latest set of DLC characters will be accompanied by a setting from their home series. The new stage, Cloud Sea of Alrest, takes place on the back of a titan named Gramps from Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Other Titans from the original game will also appear in the background of this stage.

Additionally, Pyra and Mythra will bring music from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 to Smash Ultimate. There will be 16 new tracks, in addition to the three existing songs from the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 game. Players can choose to listen to these new tracks in Gaur Plains, a setting that represents the original Xenoblade Chronicles.

Four new Mii fighter outfits will also be available for purchase when Pyra and Mythra launch in Smash Ultimate. To commemorate the release of Monster Hunter Rise, three of these Mii suits come from the Monster Hunter series: Hunter Equipment, Rathalos Equipment, and Felyne. Additionally, Arthur from Ghosts’ n Goblins, another Capcom series, will be joining as a Mii costume.

Pyra and Mythra’s gameplay in Smash Ultimate

Most of this morning’s presentation focused on Pyra and Mythra’s playstyles in Smash Ultimate. Pyra is the slower of the two, and excels at dealing massive damage with a single hit to ensure kills. By contrast, Mythra is much faster and her specialty is racking up damage with quick combos. Mythra also has a feature called Foresight that kicks in whenever she dodges an attack. Foresight reduces the damage he takes and creates a slight slowing effect for his opponent. In this way, it is similar to Bayonetta’s Bat Within feature.

While Pyra and Mythra have similar normal attacks, most of their special attacks are completely different. Their shared Down-B, Swap, allows them to quickly switch between them. In particular, Swap leaves them invincible for a short period of time, which makes it useful for avoiding attacks.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate players can get a taste of how these characters work together (or if it’s best played individually) when Pyra and Mythra join the battle today, March 4.
