The Art Of… Miniatures Art Books Coming to Kickstarter



The charming Dave Taylor will soon be launching a Kickstarter for a new series of books devoted to making your miniatures as stunning as possible. They are called the The Art Of series … and they will bring you information on the modeling and painting of miniatures by some of the greatest artists in the industry.

On April 30, 2021, Dave Taylor Miniatures is launching a Kickstarter to fund the first in a series of books that highlight the work of miniatures, approach and philosophies of a wide range of miniature painters Dave has come to admire. over his three decades of participating in this incredible hobby. These artists will cover a variety of genres and may or may not be recognized as leaders in their chosen fields of intervention. Either way, they will all have something valuable to contribute to the larger world of miniature painting.

These books will be both a celebration of the artist and his art, as well as an opportunity for them to present their thoughts on particular topics and let the world know why they approach their art the way they do. They will not be “How To” books, but may include “How To” examples.

Dave’s goal is to launch with three pounds in 2021 and then add two or three pounds each year for the foreseeable future. These books will have between 96 and 176 pages and will sell for between $ 35 and $ 50.

Volume 1 – THE ART OF Miniature Monthly

Miniature Monthly is a collective of three professional American painters – Aaron Lovejoy, Elizabeth Beckley-Bradford and Matt DiPietro – who have a Patreon and produce painting videos. All three have been shop painters for a number of different companies and they each bring something different to the table.

Aaron will cover:

• Create a team / collective – looking at The Painters’ Guild and Miniature Monthly

• Find a balance between speed and high-end paint

• Freehand – Adding depth and texture

Elizabeth will cover:

• Smooth Skin – with work on Kingdom Death minis

• Chibi Art – how chibis painting differs from “standard” miniatures

Matt will cover:

• Ancient methods with endless possibilities.

• The Art of Miniatures, – Finding your voice and interacting with the public.

Volume 2 – THE ART OF Christof Keil

Christof Keil is a German artist who made a name for himself with his incredible kitsbashes and conversions, and his work to transform 2D works into 3D pieces. Christof’s work is available on Instagram and YouTube

• Kitbashing – an emphasis on anatomy, balance, figure

• The Black Phalanx – a kitbashed project

• Sculpture – creation of reliefs and busts

• Black painting – an exercise to imitate the masters

• Black Templars – recreating the art of John Blanche on 3rd Editing

Volume 3 – THE ART OF Ana Polanšćak

Ana is a professional miniature painter from Croatia who is widely regarded for her world-building art of miniatures. His converted and sculpted miniatures blend seamlessly with his fieldwork to create dark corners of worlds begging to be explored.

• World Building – an emphasis on selecting a starting point and key developments. Work on your own worlds and collaborate with others

• Gardens of Hecate – a world created by Ana

• AoS28 – Hosting of LEGEN and the Sunhold campaign

• Sculpting – What it is like to turn concepts into physical sculptures for the market for miniatures and reliquary / artefact creations
