The Sims 4 has racked up 30 million players since launch

July 31, 2020 Over 30 million people have played The Sims 4.

Over the past 20 years, The Sims has grown into one of the most iconic video game series in the world. But even as the franchise nears its 20th anniversary, it’s surprising how much The Sims 4 – now nearly six years in its own right – continues to sell.

In a recent financial update, developer EA revealed that The Sims 4 now has over 30 million players across all platforms. A more precise breakdown was not provided, but it was also noted that “the daily, weekly and monthly totals of active players reached record levels for a first quarter.”

The life simulation game also follows a nice shape. In a call for results last year (via SeekingAlpha), EA CEO Andrew Wilson revealed that the number of Sims 4 players “has grown every year since our launch.” With the addition of three new content packs this fiscal year (Seasons, Get Famous, and Strangerville, for those of you keeping score at home), Wilson said there was an “increase. 35% year over year in player activity and our best year of commitment to the game ”.

Wilson hasn’t revealed how many players this increase actually means, but his comments reveal that there has been a pretty decent increase in the number of people starting The Sims 4 on a monthly basis. We know The Sims 4 gained five million new players in 2018, so the number of players in 2019 is likely to be quite impressive.

EA claims The Sims 4 has now grossed over $ 1 billion over its lifespan and continues to attract new players even now, nearly half a decade after its launch.
