UFC: Vicente Luque Demands “Fight of the Year” Against Nate Diaz

#4 ranked UFC welterweight Vicente Luque is once again demanding a fight against Nate Diaz. Luque told MMAJunkie.com that he expects such a fight to be a serious contender for fight of the year, and that it will get him even closer to a shot at reigning welterweight king Kamaru Usman.

“Me and Nate is ‘Fight of the Year’ potential. My style, a lot of people thought my fight with Chiesa would be a boring one, and I knew I don’t have boring fights.

No way that’s going to happen because I’m going to make it exciting in some kind of way. I don’t know how it’s going to happen, but it’s going to happen and at the end of the night, it was a great fight. It’s just my style. When I get in there, I bring the action and I’m going to entertain.”

Luque’s most recent win came against Michael Chiesa, a renowned grappler who Luque put away via D’Arce choke. Remarkably, it was his second consecutive win via D’Arce. Luque continued, explaining his reasoning for wanting to fight Nate Diaz.

“With my style, sometimes it’s hard to get a fight. I am No. 4 right now. I know there are maybe guys ranked lower that want to fight me, but I’m looking to fight guys that are going to propel me to that title fight and those guys that can propel me, sometimes it’s hard to get them to fight because my style is dangerous.

I know that if they study me, they’ll see it’s not going to be an easy fight, win or lose. It’s not going to be an easy fight for anyone if they fight me.

I think that makes it kind of challenging, but at the same time, I don’t know – I have a big opportunity with Nate Diaz. He wants that fight, I want that fight, so I think I couldn’t ask for anything better. To have a guy like Diaz wanting to fight me is awesome.”

If he can’t have Diaz, Luque is willing to settle for another high-ranked welterweight, perhaps Leon Edwards or Jorge Masvidal.

“I’m ready for him or any other guy. There’s Leon Edwards, we don’t know what’s going on – Masvidal in on that. Masvidal is waiting on Leon, I don’t know if that’s going to happen. There’s me, there’s Gilbert also, so maybe he’ll fight Gilbert and we’ll see what’s going to go on. I’m going to stay ready. In my mind, the perfect card in December would be me and Nate Diaz and then Masvidal and Gilbert Burns. That would be on the same night. That would be awesome.”
