Valheim Tips For Beginners – Gamezo

Valheim skyrocketed in popularity in no time. As of February 2, it has already sold three million copies. Here are some tips from Valheim for beginners to help you through the first few hours of play.

The beginning of your adventure

When you start the game, you will wake up in the Sacrificial Stones. These are basically the quest stones that direct you to the different bosses and are conveniently located in the central point of the map.

Perched on a smaller stone will be your guide in Valheim, a raven. It’s like a font in the Valheim Beginner’s Tip Game * Matrix Soundtrack *. Norse mythology hints that the raven could be Odin himself, but that is never mentioned in the game. The raven will take you through a short tutorial in the form of various missions. Describing them here would be redundant, so I’ll skip that part.

The Prades

The first biome in Valheim is Meadows, a serene expanse of grass and trees that really makes me want to travel to Scandinavia and vacation there for a week or so. In this biome, you’ll be able to gather the starting materials, fight low-level enemies and creatures, and probably die anyway.

Collection and processing

First things first, you want to drill some trees. You will immediately notice that your Unarmed skill will level up. All abilities level up just by using them repeatedly. Be careful though, if you die in Valheim, ALL your abilities are reset to zero.

You want to gather enough wood to make an ax. Drill five wood from the smaller trees, then run and find four stones on the ground. Open your inventory and create the stone ax.

All tools are degraded, indicated by a white bar below the tool. Any tool can be repaired for free at a roofed workbench.

Next, to upgrade your ax, you will need to build a workbench. Fortunately, all you need is ten more woods, plus a hammer. The hammer only needs three woods and two stones. Create the hammer, place it on your action bar, select it and then the right mouse button.

In the brewing menu, press F to jump to the “Brewing” option. Select the workbench and place it where you would like it to go. Notice the wide circle around the workbench. That is the area where that specific workbench allows you to use it to create certain items.

What I don’t understand is why you need a roof over the workbench so it can be used through the pick method, but hey, I didn’t play the game. The easiest way to do this is to place two walls behind the bench, parallel to it, and then two sloping roof pieces at the top, hanging over the bench. The workbench does NOT require a roof to be approached with the hammer.

Now, you can use the bank to create many more items. Virtually all the elements that you cannot create are useful, so you must create each and every one of them. I highly recommend having a flashlight. It serves as a source of light and can burn enemies over time if you can hit them with it.

If you don’t want to create everything, this is what I recommend:

  • A campfire: allows you to sleep in your bed. Make sure you have ventilation in your house, otherwise you will be damaged by smoke and die.
  • A bed: resting at night will pass time and turn it into the morning, and will establish your point of appearance in bed. To use it you must have a fire nearby. Resting in bed also provides a rest bonus, increasing health and stamina regeneration.
  • Raw Bow: Bows are VERY strong early in the game. They can be a bit difficult to get used to, but once you learn to handle resistance and aim, you will deal damage like free beer at a country music festival.
  • Wooden arrows – requires only 8 woods for 20 arrows, you need to stock up on them. Especially since the goal is certainly unique.

You should also keep an eye out for berry / mushroom bushes, deer / wild boar, and necks. There are three food buffs in the game, which increase your maximum health and provide other benefits, and each of those foods will give a different buff that stacks with the other two. Necks are frog lizard things that normally stay in shallow water and are easy to kill. Cook their tails for your hobby of food.

A raft

Valheim Beginner's Guide

There may be a possibility that your first boss is on a different land mass than the starting area. That happened to me in my second game … You’ll need a raft to get there. To make a raft (which rhymes), you will need to place a workbench near the water. The raft is already learned and can be made with twenty woods, six leather and ten resin. Put it in the water and read the instructions on how to use it.

In summary

Basically, unless you are a sprinter, take your time. Gather as many materials as you can and / or want, update your items, and explore all the crafting options.
